Minchan Kim is a jazz drummer and composer based between Seoul and New York. Born in Daejeon and trained at Kyunghee University, he came to jazz through bassist Martin Zenker and found his voice on a televised stage with saxophonist Jesse Davis, released as Soul Searchin': Live in Seoul (Nagel Heyer, 2017). He has since played around a hundred cities in more than thirty-five countries, from Smalls in New York to Marians Jazzroom in Bern and Fat Cat in Ulaanbaatar, with musicians including Jesse Davis, Martin Zenker, Tony Lakatos, Ilan Eisenzweig and Daniel Ko. He leads his own groups, teaches, and is currently recording his first album under his own name and writing a book for people who have never listened to jazz.
